Iris is a 12 year old girl who was born deaf. She is the only deaf student in her school and her life is complicated and lonely among her peers, she takes solace in fixing and rebuilding radios. In her science class Iris learns about a whale named Blue 55. Iris learns that Blue 55 is a hybrid, he comes from two different species of whale. His singing to other whales does not resonate leaving him in isolation. Iris learns all she can about 55, and she makes a recording to help him, with the hope that he will learn that he is not alone. Iris and her grandmother set out on an amazing and empowering journey where they both discover their own potential with the goal of helping out the loneliest whale in the world.
