Runaway Signs

Runaway Signs

Author Joan Holub Illustrated by Alison Farrell

Age Range: 4-8

It is summer break and kids are making plans for vacation. Signs-everything from a cross guard sign to a stop sign, to a bicycle sign-apparently need a vacation too. As the signs head out on the open road more signs are being recruited to take a trip.

While the signs are enjoying their holiday, people in the town are missing the signs (no pun intended), kids do not know where to ride their bikes, construction workers do not know where to work, and traffic jams are a plenty. The signs realize they are needed, and hurry back to help out-with the realization of playing a vital role in everyday town life-except when an ice cream cart comes along.

A Bookish Decree: humorous with a poignant message about taking responsibility.
